- Lead and manage a team of database administrators, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Develop and implement database policies, procedures, and best practices for performance, security, and compliance.
- Monitor and analyze database performance metrics to identify and address issues and bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to understand database requirements and design solutions.
- Plan and oversee database upgrades, patches, and migrations for smooth transitions and improvements.
- Implement and enforce data security measures, including access controls and encryption.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting and resolving database issues, assisting the team as needed.
- Stay informed on industry trends and best practices in database management to align with current standards.
- Monitor database server health, recommend, and implement performance tuning solutions.
- Analyze and address problems, anticipate issues, and implement solutions to mitigate risks.
- Oversee environment setup, configuration, proactive monitoring, and maintenance.
- Support database administration and design needs for both short- and long-term projects.
- Participate in change control processes to ensure orderly and controlled database changes.
- Collaborate with report writers to provide necessary data for report generation and analysis.
- Manage database-related projects, coordinating with functional teams to deliver quality results on time.
- Investigate and determine root causes of database issues, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Direct database schema design, develop ad hoc queries, and scripts.
- Perform database administration tasks, including installation, configuration, backups, upgrades, and patching.
- Review SQL code for compliance with standards and optimization.
- Evaluate stored procedure performance, provide optimization recommendations.
- Create and manage deployment and rollback scripts for database updates.
- Propose optimal index and query configurations based on access patterns.
- Identify and implement technical enhancements, addressing major incidents promptly.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and retention, including management of end-user accounts and permissions.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for 24/7 support and off-hours maintenance as needed.
- Proficiency in database technologies including MariaDB/MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases like MongoDB and Cassandra.
- Extensive knowledge of Linux operating systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Expertise in backup/recovery processes and relational databases.
- Competence in shell scripting and other scripting languages (e.g., Shell, Perl, Python).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field required; relevant experience may substitute.
- At least 10 years of experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with automation and scripting (Shell, Perl, Python).
